As a senior admissions consultant, Dr. Malak enjoys helping students cultivate their college application materials. She supports their academic and extracurricular development through higher education research.
Before joining Spark Admissions, Dr. Malak worked in academic and literary publishing at the University of Texas Press, the Community of Literary Magazines and Presses, and the Los Angeles Review of Books. An experienced editor and book publisher, Dr. Malak is amply prepared to support students in developing thoughtful essays that elucidate their personal and academic narratives. Further, she draws on a decade of experience teaching language and writing courses to counsel students in finding their voice through writing, summer programming, and research opportunities.
Dr. Malak was selected as a Fulbright Scholar at Emory University, where she completed her bachelor’s degree, and later as a Mellon / ACLS Public Fellow after earning her PhD in Latin American Literature from UT-Austin. She currently serves as a contributing editor at Amherst College’s The Common magazine and is working on her first book-length literary translation. She lives near Prospect Park in Brooklyn.
